Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. concerned the 180 day deadline for filing a pay discrimination claim. Ginsburg wrote that the deadline should begin with every paycheck, not from the date of the first discriminatory decision as the majority had held. Congress agreed with the dissent and subsequently changed the law.
Hobby Lobby was a birth control case in which the owners claimed an exemption from paying for their employee’s birth control products as required by the Affordable Care Act. The Act had an exemption for religions institutions which opposed birth control, but not for profit making corporations whose owners said the requirement violated their personal religious beliefs. A majority found for the owners. Ginsburg wrote the dissent.
Ginsburg wrote for the majority in the case which brought women into the Virginia Military Institute — the last military college to do so.
The book ends with three of Ginsburg’s speeches to different audiences. Unfortunately there is no index, so you can’t look up something you want to review, or see continuity in the themes. More and more publishers are leaving out indexes, to the detriment of readers.
