House Committee Approves Bill to Combat Child Pornography: On May 3, the House Judiciary Committee approved H.R. 1761, the Protecting Against Child Exploitation Act.
On May 2, the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel held a hearing, Overview of the Annual Report on Sexual Harassment and Violence at the Military Service Academies. The report revealed an increase of sexual harassment throughout all military service academies, noting that approximately 12 percent of women in service academies experienced sexual assault and nearly half faced persistent sexual harassment.

- Vice Admiral Walter E. Carter Jr., superintendent, United States Naval Academy;
- Lieutenant General Robert L. Caslen Jr., superintendent, United States Military Academy;
- Lieutenant General Michelle D. Johnson, superintendent, United State Air Force Academy; and
- Elizabeth P. Van Winkle, assistant secretary of defense readiness, Office of the Secretary of Defense; and
- Annie Kendzior, former midshipmen, United States Naval Academy.

Human Trafficking
H.R. 2268—Rep. Susan Davis (D-CA)/Education and the Workforce (5/1/17)—A bill to award grants to local educational agencies to establish, expand, and support programs to train school staff to recognize and respond to signs of labor and sex trafficking and to provide classroom curricula to students on how to avoid becoming victims of labor and sex trafficking.
