Suzette Haden
Elgin began writing science fiction novels to help pay
for her Ph.D. in linguistics while raising five children: The
Communipaths, Furthest, Star-Anchored, Star-Angered and
The Ozark Trilogy — Twelve
Fair Kingdoms, The Grand Jubilee, And
Then There’ll
Be Fireworks. Her current novels are
the Native Tongue series — Native Tongue, The
Judas Rose, Earthsong — and
with them, she constructed a language called Láadan which
appeared separately in the Láadan Grammar & Dictionary.
Suzette
writes and publishes a newsletter, Linguistics & Science
Fiction, and runs the Ozark Center for Language Studies,
dedicated to the goals of reducing violence and disseminating
information
about linguistics. She has also written The Grandmother Principles for
Abbeville Press and
the book may also be found at Amazon.
