Susan Samuels Drake is the author of Fields of Courage: Remembering Cesar Chavez & the People Whose Labor Feeds Us published in Many Names Press, 1999. The poetic memoir recalls her experiences during the formative years of United Farm Workers.
“Give Me Your Hungry,” a poem from the memoir, was chosen by a Norwegian editor for inclusion in one of that country’s high school textbooks, Focus. In 1998, her spoof “A Muppet Confession” was selected for publication in a contest titled “I Had Sex with Clinton.” In 1999, Writer’s Digest awarded her in its poetry category for Fields of Courage… ”
Having traveled around the world, this native Californian settled on the Central Coast in the Santa Cruz area, an hour from her birthplace in Palo Alto. She is sole proprietor of Word Management, a freelance writing, editing and transcription enterprise.
