World's Longest Garage Sale, Page Two

Don't have time for the whole road trip?

A shorter trip will still give you a chance to enjoy some southern hospitality and find plenty of bargains. The sale begins in a German neighborhood called MainStrasse in Covington, Ky. opposite Cincinnati on the southern side of the Ohio River. This historic neighborhood offers interesting B&Bs, dining options and the yard sale encircles the entire park area in the midst of antique shops. Other interesting communities, like Danville and Jamestown, Kentucky and Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area, Sergeant Alvin C. York Mill & Homeplace and Pickett State Park in Tennessee are also along the way.

Vendors touting antiques and collectibles, handmade crafts and homemade foods are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. For those interested in selling, setup is free and of course, the shopping is fun.

For additional information about the World's Longest Garage Sale, in Alabama call the DeKalb County Tourist Association at 888-805-4740 and 256-845-3957; in Tennessee, call the Fentress County Chamber of Commerce, 800-327-3945 and 931-879-9948 and in Kentucky, contact Kentucky Tourism at 800-225-8747. There are numerous websites including http://www.127sale.com and http://www.tourdekalb.com/WLY%20map%202001.jpg for a map of the route.
